Some of the names for acne and acne scars include
Chronic persistent acne – common among women who have suffered with it since adolescence or developed it during adulthood and may be associated with “hirsutism”
- Acne rosacea – commonly called “adult acne” is visibly identified by unsightly, thick red skin on the nose and cheeks, pustules, small red bumps and small red blood vessels on the skin surface
- Acne vulgaris – common acne characterized by blackheads, whiteheads, papules and pustules (mild to moderately severe)
- Papules – (moderately severe acne) - small, red bumps on the skin that are inflammatory comedones (acne lesions)
- Macules or “pseudo-scars” that are flat, red or reddish spots in the final stage of inflamed acne lesions.
- Post-inflammatory pigmentation – skin discoloration at the site of a healed or healing, inflamed acne lesion
- Nodules (severe acne) – painful, pus-filled cysts or lumps under the skin
Acne scars are usually pigmented, elevated or depressed. A different type of treatment is required for each type. Depending on your personal concerns and condition, the appropriate type of treatment(s) will be customized to meet your needs and effectively deal with your concerns.

Acne and Acne Scarring frequently asked questions:
What will my skin look like after laser treatment for acne?
Immediately after your treatment session, there will be little or nothing to see on the treated area, however some people do experience mild redness following treatment.
Can I apply makeup or anything on my skin after the acne laser treatment?
You may apply makeup and skin care products immediately after the laser treatment.
How soon will I see an improvement?
Patients treated for acne and acne scarring generally begin to see an improvement within 30 days, although this varies based on the individual. You may likely see additional improvement over the next few months.
Can I continue to have acne treatments in the future?
Since the laser is such an effective and low risk treatment, there is no reason why patients cannot continue to treat for as long as they like in the future, although this will vary from person to person.
If I continue to have treatments, will it keep my acne under control?
This is a relatively new treatment and long term information is limited. However, there are a number of patients who have been treated with the laser for long-term control who have achieved successful results for more than 3 years.
