Frequently Asked Questions:
What body areas can I get treated with IPL? The face, neck, chest, hands, legs, etc. can all be treated safely and quickly. The “around the eye” area is the only area we cannot treat using IPL.
What are IPL treatments like? Quick and Easy! After your initial preparation, the hand piece is moved over your skin emitting a light that breaks up the pigment in lesions. Patients tell us there is little or no discomfort and that they perceive the light as a gentle, “snapping” sensation.
What should I expect after IPL treatment? Pigmented lesions will darken slightly after treatment – then fade away in about 10-14 days. Visible veins become gray or “blanched” looking, the surrounding area reddens a bit and then all fades away within 10-14 days. You may experience some temporary redness and minor swelling (similar to a sunburn) in the treated area. However, normal activities may be resumed immediately and the minor side effects usually resolve within a day. The treatment is safe and gentle!
How does IPL compare with other laser treatments? Some lasers treat red spots while others treat brown spots and still others are used for facial skin resurfacing. Pulsed-light systems are very similar in that they treat lesions basically the same way. The difference with IPL is that it removes lesions up to 10 times faster than lasers!
